Welcome to the Monthly Market Update on You And Your Money. Empowering you to reach your goals with tips and insights to help you Plan Well, Invest Well and Live Well. I'm Jim Zahansky, principal managing partner and chief goal strategist at Weiss, Hale and Zahansky Strategic Wealth Advisors. And here's this month's market update. Jim Zahansky is here today. Principal managing partner, chief goal strategist at Weiss, Hale and Zahansky Strategic Wealth Advisors. Jim, good morning. Morning, Gary. Good to see you. Good to see you also. How about an update on the financial market? What's going on, Jim? Yeah, a big part of our job is to watch what's happening in the global economy, the U.S. economy. And, you know, we came into the year not exactly sure what was going to happen in the markets due to the fact that there is significant inflation. Interest rates were rising. And, you know, all of those things, those factors have started to moderate a bit. You know, interest rates have while just sort of gone up throughout the year it has sort of worked as it relates to reducing inflation. And so that was the biggest issue. So when you look at the indices which we watch, you know, how is the market performing? The S&P 500 index up double digits. You know, the Nasdaq, which is more tech driven index, is is really leading, and that's up over 20% year to date. The bond market not quite as strong when you look at the U.S. bond index. On the ag level, you know, up up this year, but not quite as strong as the equities markets. So as we look forward, the thing that we always say in our investment committee, you know, what are the risks and what are the opportunities? And there's always risks out there when you're investing money and it's how to navigate through them. And we look at the risks. You know, clearly interest rates could continue to go up. If we were surprised that growth was continuing to go too fast paced and that, you know, monetary policy would have to have interest rates go up. Unlikely scenario. And then there's always the chance that gross domestic product could slow. That would also be a surprise this year. And as those risks we don't know about that are just sort of happening out there in the geopolitical world or some exogenous event. Those are the ones that surprised the market and can cause some challenges. So, you know, those are the ones we don't know about, the ones we're watching a more economically based. And there's always opportunities, you know. Tech this year has been a really strong opportunity. And as we look forward, you'll be watching companies on infrastructure and artificial intelligence for sure. So as we always say to investors, you know, think long term and obviously when you're positioning for your risk posture, consider how you can manage risk up and down. But markets generally go up as long as you know, over time. As always, thanks for listening. You And Your Money. Find even more episodes, videos and other resources at our website. whzwealth.com.
