Leisl Cording, senior vice president and financial advisor at Weiss, Hale and Zahansky Strategic Wealth Advisors. Leisl, good morning to you. Good morning, Gary. Good to have you here today. So good topic just in time for Mother's Day today. Which, of course, is coming up. A basic question. How can professional women, who are also mothers, maintain a healthy work life balance? Well, this is such an important topic. And even though it's not directly related to finances, it's something that is very pertinent to living well as part of our Plan Well, Invest Well, Live Well process here at WHZ. And if you're not balancing your career with personal life and self care you're going to get burned out and that can really affect your ability to live well no matter what your income or how wealthy you are. So how does this relate to mothers in particular? Well, professional women, and particularly mothers, they often have the hardest time keeping that healthy work life balance. And they want to do it all and they feel like they have to do it all perfectly as well. And usually that's at the expense of their own self-care. So it's really an issue that's central to the ability for women to live well and achieve their dreams from both professional and financial goals to some of those bigger life goals. So it's important. So what are some of the tips you have to share to help professional women address the challenges? Well, we have several tips that we'll share with you today. One of them is determine your overall priorities and goals and actually write them down. There's studies that say when you write things down, they actually happen and you want to rank those in order of importance. And this is really helpful because we have to make decisions every day about competing priorities. So it's important that there's no single right way to rank those priorities either because everyone's situation is different. And so how does this come into play? So it can be helpful on a day to day basis. What do you do? Well, having that list again, like I said, writing it down is really important and can help you make those decisions on the fly. But really what it leads to is tip number two, which is putting all of your work and personal commitments together on one calendar. That's really important. So you can see, Oh, there is a conflict I have with a work and a personal commitment and I have to be two places at once. That's not going to work. Now, is it important to have an equal partnership with your partner in addressing all the family commitments? That's obvious, right? Absolutely. And yeah, tip number three is trying to maybe stagger schedules, if you can, with your partner. If your work is flexible when you can start, because one of you might go in a little earlier and get out or out of work earlier so you can get the kids off the bus and the other vice versa, going in a little later and working a little later. So that really helps to cater both to your career and catering to the needs of children. And then you're working, both are working and obviously a lot of demands that come from that and that can knock the work life balance off. How do professional moms and dads really, for that matter, deal with those stresses? Well, this is where the next couple of tips come in. Tip number four that we say delegate like a boss. And then tip number five, learn to say no. And tip number six would be strive for progress, not perfection. And that's really important. But on the delegate, like a boss, if you're working and you're part of a leadership team, if there's work that can be done better by others, it'll make you and your team stronger. The other important one I just mentioned, learn to say no and that's really where you look back at that priority list and say, Ooh, this doesn't align with my priorities. I might have to say no to this. So these are some great tips and stuff that I'm working on still to this day. Now, you mentioned to progress, not perfection, that the drill down on that. That seems kind of important. It is. And it's you've got to stop demanding perfection of yourself in every aspect of your life. And if you're spending a lot of time working, you might feel like, ooh, I'm not giving enough to my family and vice versa. So cut yourself some slack and really focus on quality over quantity. What about asking for help? Some people are comfortable with that, some others are not. Yeah, well, that's. That's another good one, too. I mean, just like delegating at work can be a game changer. Think about delegating at home as well. For example, if you can hire someone to clean your house or mow your lawn and do those types of chores, that's great. And then if you can lean on an expert like us to help you with your finances, that can also help to to take you to that next level and help you achieve your goals and take that worry off your plate. That's also important. That’s what you do right? At WHZ Wealth. That's exactly right. And I'm proud to say that I have a lot of female business owner clients and professionals among my clients and our Plan Well, Invest Well, Live Well process really helps to set out a personalized plan for meeting the financial and life goals that we've talked about with each of them. And it's really neat to see them coming through and helping them through that process. Well, it was a good topic, timely and some good advice. Thank you, Leisl.
